Together with project partners Kurt Vanbelleghem, Tobias Van Royen and Emily Overlaet – and with support of the Flemish Government (Vlaamse overheid) – we set out to create a visual discussion support tool enabling artists, their heirs and other stakeholders in their legacy to draft a basic outline structure for an artist estate. It provides them with a baseline document which they can then discuss with legal, financial and/or other advisors to add further detail to their plans.

The “Artist Estate Canvas” can be used in a variety of contexts: e.g. during the lifetime of the artist when they wish to plan their legacy, when the artist has passed away and their heirs need to take decisions regarding their legacy or when an estate structure is already in place but contexts and/or wishes/capabilities have shifted.

Together with Belgium’s top photographer and visual artist Dirk Braeckman and his daughter Ine, we explored a first version of our Artist Estate Canvas.
