Rijksherenoverleg Flevoland 2024

An increasing number of organizations and networks are turning their attention to future crises and their potential impact on key societal systems. The “Rijksherenoverleg” (a consultative meeting of regional governors and state representatives) in Provincie Flevoland (NL) recently joined this timely conversation.

At the invitation of the King’s Commissioner, Arjen Gerritsen, our co-founder Nicole Rijkens delivered an insightful introduction to the notion of future shocks and their implications. Participants collaboratively explored how various shocks might ripple through Flevoland—a remarkable province, the youngest in the Netherlands, created through land reclamation.

Despite its engineered origins, Flevoland is not immune to disruption. This session offered a unique platform to consider the potential causes and consequences of technological, social, ecological, and economic shocks—and to explore strategies for building resilience.

Our ShockBox approach proved once again highly engaging, sparking enthusiasm for further exploration.
